The Board of DirectorsJUTA is administered by a board of thirteen (13) members:
Thirty one years after been established, J.U.T.A. is still a healthy organization, but had not it been for strong leadership, J.U.T.A. would be non-existent, because of the shock and ripples that the organization experienced. This should have rocked its foundation, but strong men and women stepped up to” stand in the gap”. These are some of them from the Kingston Chapter that is making a difference. Our PresidentDescribed by all and sundry, as one of the cornerstone of J.U.T.A., Donald Jackson, the President of the Kingston Chapter, and JUTA, has come a far way. He is one of the founding members of the organization where he served as both the national and chapter secretaries. Having witnessed the growth and transformation of the organization, and played an integral role in steering it through the turbulent years, it is apt that Mr. Jackson be in the driver’s seat to move it forward. He is a very positive person, and does not like to dwell on the ills of the past, and this seems to radiate to the rest of the staff and other members that works close to him. For the future he wants to move J.U.T.A. into other areas of business. With so many new players entering tourism transport we need to stay ahead of the pack.
Our SecretaryOur Secretary is Newton Bernard and he exudes an aire of professionalism. He has been a member for fifteen (15) years now, the past three in the executive. He has transformed the office into professional unit by hiring qualified personnel, furnishing them with the proper tools for the job. He believes in staff training and is serious about the dress code. His vision for the organization is to have a stronger JUTA presence in the media. He wants to see a return to the Kingston harbour of Cruise lines. Finally, he intends to interface again with international tour and ground transportation companies to learn from them and to do business.
Our TreasurerOur Treasurer is Everard Chaplin, a man who likes to get the work done, has meticulously reorganized the finance system of the Kingston chapter, bringing it up to modern standards. Under his leadership, the accounting is now computerized and therefore more orderly. He has been with JUTA for twenty (20) years, ten of which have been served on the executive. For the future, Mr. Chaplin wants to see the members getting their fuel, tires and parts from a central source, preferably run by JUTA, as well as a Credit Union, broaden to include all players in Jamaica’s tourism ground transportation system. He also wants to establish a sport club for members and a home for the aged for those members who have reached the twilight of there lives.
Our Line ManagerMr. Lloyd Black is our ‘Director on the ground’. He is in charge of J.U.T.A.’s operation at the Norman Manley International Airport. A member for thirty (30) years now, he employs his street smarts and discipline to ensure that JUTA is providing an efficient service at the airport.
Our Transport DirectorOur Transport Director is Mr. Donald French. He is our ‘contact man’, and has been a member for fourteen (14) years now. He interfaces with our clientele and coordinate the activities of our rolling stock. He has brought a lot of professionalism to his department, and is an important part of JUTA’s huge operation. |
