JUTA KINGSTON

JUTA Tours Limited is a limited liability company registered under the laws of Jamaica. The company commenced operations thirty-one (31) years ago and has now grown to total membership of about five thousand (5000).

Our motor vehicles are air-conditioned and equipped with entertainment-aid public address systems. We offer varying sizes of vehicles, e.g. forty-five-(45-) seater buses, thirty-three- (33-) seater buses, twenty-nine- (29-) seater buses, fifteen- (15-) seater buses, and cars.

Our Activities consist of ground transportation, in the tourism industry and, more recently, staff transportation in the Kingston Metropolitan region. We also arrange tours, fun-day packages, and school [educational] field trips.

There are five other chapters located in the resort areas of the country. This ensures that there are enough vehicles within close proximity of each other to assist should a vehicle develop a problem.

Our two-way radio communication system assures our clients of our goals of providing the best service with better communication. In addition, our members are equipped with cellular telephones to better enhance our communication system.

We handle large incentive groups at various times throughout the year, and we participate in the major trade shows locally and overseas organized by the Jamaica Tourist Board.

JUTA is an allied member of the following organizations:

JUTA is able to transport any number of passengers you designate per route. Billing for transportation is done at the end of the period. In special cases, such as the transportation of Very Important Persons (VIPs) by other limousine/taxi services, a statement of account is generated reflecting date, number of passengers, and destinations.

History

Before JUTA, hundreds of individual transport operators ran the ground transportation for the Tourism Industry. It left a lot to be desired because of their unreliable cars, lack of coordination, and general lack of discipline. In 1973, the Government of the day, seeing the potential for tourism, decided to reorganize the transportation industry.

A survey was done to determine the number, types and age of vehicles present in the industry, the numbers of taxi associations, and all other shortcomings. They were encouraged to form one organization to represent all their interest. Hence, the Jamaica Union of Travellers Association (J.U.T.A.) was formed in 1973. There were about 900 members from four chapters. Today this has evolved to about 5000 members from six chapters as of 2004, making J.U.T.A. the largest ground transportation association in the English-speaking Caribbean.
